You probably heard that Mariah Carey insured her overrated legs for a staggering $1 billion. It was news when model Rachel Hunter's legs were insured for $1 million in her heydey. Heidi Klum's legs are currently insured for a relatively realistic $2 million, but she's an international supermodel, not a hedonistic singer who could easily let up on her exercise routine and become a size 14. (This is a woman who doesn't even lift her own drinks, so it's doubtful that she even approaches Janet Jackson's level of fitness commitment.)
Mariah is fronting PETA-hated Gillette's "Legs of a Goddess" Godzilla campaign, and has taken out a $1 billion insurance policy on her legs as a result. Those razors better be smooth, because a little knick could cost the insurance company six figures. If she falls or something, they're bankrupt.
Mariah will be on tour soon, and will probably be dancing and stuff, but $1 billion is way excessive. Britney had to cancel her tour two years ago due to a knee injury, but it's hard to imagine the damage being that high if Mariah is laid up for a while.
Mariah appeared at Radio City Music hall yesterday for a press conference announcing her role as the Gillette spokesperson. She posed with a 16-foot likeness of her own legs after a 20 pound weight loss, making me wonder where the rest of the giant Mariah went. Are those legs attached to a huge evil Mariah monster that's ready to take over Manhattan?

Oprah held her "Legends Ball" last night to honor the achievements of African-American women. Celebrities pictured include Oprah Winfrey, Janet Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Tyra Banks, Mariah Carey, Spike Lee, Diddy, Smokey Robinson, Pam Grier, Dionne Warwick, Gayle King, Cicely Tyson, Deborah Roberts, Antonio LA Reid , and Nate Berkus.
A two hour special featuring highlights from the 2005 Legends Ball will air on ABC this Monday:
The special is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. ET Monday, May 15, leading into the two-hour season finale of "Grey's Anatomy." It will feature interviews with some of the honorees and others who attended the ball, along with footage from the events of the weekend: a lunch for the honorees, a formal, white-tie ball and a gospel brunch that featured the likes of Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight.In addition to the honorees, among those in attendance at the weekend's events were Halle Berry, Sidney Poitier, Angela Bassett, Tom Cruise, Barbra Streisand, Sen. Barack Obama, Maria Shriver and Quincy Jones.
In the pictures of the event, Janet Jackson looks fit and happy, and Mariah Carey looks pretty good even though she's wearing a stripper cut-out dress. 70s siren Pam Grier looks pretty bad, but I looked her up and she suffered from cancer in 1988 and was given 18 months to live. She was gorgeous in Jackie Brown in 1997. Hopefully she's on the road to recovery and will get a makeover soon.

Now we know the reason why only Pharrell came to Paris to film his part in the Say Something video - Snoop would have been too expensive:
MARIAH CAREY insists rapper SNOOP DOGG is such a diva she decided it would be best he filmed his contribution to her forthcoming music video in Los Angeles, rather than fly his entourage to Paris, France. Carey and PHARRELL WILLIAMS shot the majority of the promo for SAY SOMETHIN' in the French capital last week... while Snoop filmed his section in LA on Sunday. Carey tells MTV, "If you guys think I'm a diva and I have requirements, Snoop is the next level. He's the hip-hop king. "
Mariah goes on to emphasize how over-the-top Snoop's requirements are, without getting into specifics. Maybe he just didn't feel like flying to Europe to work and decided it would be easier if the work came to him.
Mariah may be taking advantage of her 20 pound weight loss to become a spokesperson for a fashion house. She is said to have been noticed by Louis Vuitton higher-ups while filming "Say Something" in their Paris store. Her rep said that "she is in talks" with "quite a few fashion labels." [via]
Mariah, no matter what you say Snoop cannot out-diva you.

More photos surfaced of Mariah and Pharrell filming "Say Something," the next single off Mariah's multi-platinum album, "The Emancipation of Mimi." Mariah looks healthy and more toned in a side-slit bathing suit. Coveted Louis Vuitton purses and a slew of gorgeous shoes are featured in the video. Snoop Dog was rumored to have a spot in "Say Something," and he lends his talent to the track, but we haven't found pictures of him with Carey and Pharrell. He may be edited into the video later.
We may have spoken too soon when we speculated that Pharrell and Carey were an item. Although they were pictured holding hands after the shoot, it may have been just for publicity as the two are both said to be involved with other people. Pictures [via]

Mariah Carey, 35, holds hands with Pharrell Williams, the successful 32 year-old lead vocalist of NERD, as they leave Paris. Although their relationship looks more than just professional they were shooting "The Say Something" video together a couple days ago. Late last month Mariah was said to be dating NY-based rapper Cam'ron.
Mariah says in the March issue of Marie Claire that the rumors of her 2001 breakdown were false and she was simply overworked:
"They all said I'd had a nervous breakdown, but people don't recover from nervous breakdowns three days later!"
Mariah must have forgotten that her publicist confirmed that she was "under psychiatric care" at the time.

Mariah Carey wears a jacket as a robe while filming the "Say Somethin" video in Paris on 3/9.
Earlier today, Mariah filmed the video to "Say Somethin'" in Paris, France. The video was shot in various locations such as the Petit Palais museum, Concorde Plaza and Place de La Concorde in Champs elysיes. Paul Hunter is the video's director and Pharrell Williams can be seen in the pictures with Mariah in the car. Benny Medina, Mark Sudack and Jasmine Dotiwala (who was filming for MTV) were also present.
Mariah has been working out and asking people to punch her and feel her up. She recently bragged about her firmer body to Page Six staff, and invited them to feel her thighs and ass. Unfortunately, Mariah fears that she's working out too much and plans to slow down so she doesn't lose her ass:
"I've been working out like mad - you can even punch me in the stomach and feel how tight that is."But I've gotta slow it down, cos the other day someone told me I was losing my ass - and I don't want to lose that."

Meanwhile, in other Oscar news and on the celebrity pampering front, to calm stars' nerves and prepare them for the big night, several "style suites" are available to help celebrities relax, refine fashion looks and stock up on key accessories.
What a creative way to explain that celebrities get stuff in exchange for free product promotion. I really hate the word "swag," it sounds so ridiculous.

While promoting her new line of tween costume jewelry on a Barbara Walers special, Mariah revealed that she has a clue:
"I still don't know if I want to have children. If that's in the cards for me .... it's not if I 'want' to have children. I feel like being a celebrity and having kids is a huge responsibility. I would want to make sure I was fully prepared to handle what would happen to those kids when they have to deal with the baggage of having a famous parent," she said.
Wow, Sienna Miller realizes that she shouldn't put out a clothing line, and Mariah Carey knows that having children is a big responsibility. Eva Longoria, on the other hand, thinks pregnancy is the best way to avoid looking fat.
