Multi-talented model, actress, producer, and recording artist Melanie Iglesias releases “Whateva,” along with her EP, Context.

Iglesias’ rise to fame began when Maxim named her one of their “Hometown Hotties.” On YouTube, she made waves with ‘The Melanie Iglesias Flip Book,’ her viral video series. She’s been featured in World’s Most Beautiful, Esquire, and Vibe, as well as appearing on the World Poker Tour series, Guy Code, Girl Code, and Guy Court, followed by appearances on Ellen Degeneres, Tosh. O, and Orange Is The New Black and starring in the feature film Abnormal Attraction.

After being forced to put her music on the back burner due to nodules on her larynx, Iglesias returned with her hit single, “L is a B,” a song about the difficulties associated with being a social influencer, which isn’t simply glitz and glamor. Now she’s following with her new EP and “Whateva.”

Explaining “Whateva,” Iglesias says, “’Whateva’ is my favorite song from Context because it’s so raw and real. I’ve written my fair share of songs that discuss past toxic relationships with others but ‘Whateva’ is about attempting to self-soothe, in sometimes not so healthy ways.”

“Whateva” opens with a voice mail flowing into a cool shimmering alt-pop melody flavored with suave R&B savors topped by Iglesias’ rich, evocative voice, exuding quixotic aromas and an acknowledgment of imminent risk. A sensuous rhythmic flow imbues the music with an infectious undulating cadence, as oozing synths inject velvety colors.

The song’s lyrics suggest she’s left heartbreak behind, while at the same time signaling latent aftereffects are coming into play, affecting her in mysterious ways.

“Monday through Friday now / I’m floatin on that loud / Your memory fades with every face that I see in the crowd … And that I’m happy or whateva.”

As she insists on her happiness, there’s a shadow of doubt in the appended “whateva,” as if she’s realizing the only one she’s kidding is herself.

Simultaneously self-assured and hesitant, “Whateva” narrates an honest depiction of what Melanie Iglesias is feeling in her heart of hearts.
