ENCINO, CA (CelebrityAccess)—Get ready for an electrifying journey filled with pulsating Afrobeat rhythms and legendary live performances. Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 are thrilled to announce their highly anticipated North American tour for 2024, presented by Django Music. This tour promises to captivate audiences with their infectious energy and renowned stage presence.
Kuti, born in early 1983, is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He showed interest in his father’s music from the age of five and began opening his dad’s shows at nine, singing a select group of songs with Egypt 80 before his dad took the stage. As a developing saxophonist and percussionist, he entered the formal ranks of the band before he was 12. Fela passed in 1997, and Seun, fulfilling his father’s wishes, has spent most of his life preserving and extending his father’s political and musical legacy as the leader of his father’s former band, Egypt 80.
The band’s most recent tour was in 2022, touring in support of the EP African Dreams with Black Thought, a selection of live recordings from Clout Studios, the Night Dreamer direct-to-disc sessions, and other music. Most recently, he was featured on Janelle Monae’s “Float,” released in February 2023.
On June 14 in San Diego and June 16 in Los Angeles, Kuti will join the iconic Soul Rebels as a guest. Additionally, on July 17 in Toronto and July 22 in Cuyahoga Falls, Kuti and Egypt 80 will make special appearances as opening acts for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the magic of Kuti live in concert, bringing his electrifying energy and timeless rhythms to stages across North America.
